7 Organic Homemade Baby Food Recipes for your 7 Month Old

Here are some homemade baby food recipes for your 7 month old, made from organic, whole produce.

It is important when your baby turns 7 months old and is able to support themselves in a sitting position to start serving food that has slight texture.

Thicker textures can help your baby grow mentally and physically as they learn to make use of their instincts to chew and bite. Your baby will be training muscles in his mouth and areas of his brain to prepare for when he starts to talk and eat. Even though babies won’t yet have teeth, they will be able to “chew” with their gums. The food should still be mostly soft, however.

Your baby may initially gag or spit the food out, but don’t worry this is normal. They just need more practice.

As a guide:

You could also start teaching your baby to sip from a cup. You could offer them boiled and cooled water, expressed breastmilk, or formula.

Never leave your baby alone while they eat.

Remember, no salt, sugar, or other additives are needed for your baby’s food.

1) Oatmeal Porridge

Ingredients

  • Oatmeal, without hard outside peel
  • Water, expressed breastmilk, or formula

Procedure

  • Place water and oatmeal in a saucepan. Water should be twice as much as oatmeal.
  • Turn on heat and bring to a boil
  • Lower heat and simmer until soft and consistent
  • Allow to cool and serve

2) Vegetable Mash with Cheese

Ingredients

  • 1 carrot, peeled and cut
  • Cauliflower, chopped
  • Baby spinach leaves
  • Hard cheese, like parmesan

Procedure

  • Place a little bit of water in a saucepan and turn heat on
  • Place carrot, cauliflower, and spinach in, close lid
  • Lower heat and steam until soft
  • Or use steamer
  • Remove and mash with fork into lumps
  • Grate cheese on top while hot
  • Add a bit of the cooking water if needed, to make more liquid like in texture
  • Let cool and serve

3) Roast Chicken with Pear

Ingredients

  • 1 chicken breast
  • 1 pear

Preparation

  • Place chicken on oven tray and cook in oven for 1.5 hours, or until fully cooked
  • Remove chicken from oven and strip away skin and bones
  • Finely chop into very small pieces
  • Steam pear in a saucepan with a little water, or in a steamer, for 5-10 minutes or until just softening
  • Remove pear and mash with fork
  • Combine with chicken
  • Serve after cooled

 

4) Meat and Mashed Potato Pie

Ingredients

  • 150g beef, minced
  • Potato, peeled and washed

Procedure

  • Cook potato in water
  • Remove after soft
  • Add a little bit of butter and mash
  • Preheat oven
  • Place minced meat on a baking tray
  • Spread mashed potato on top
  • Put in oven and leave until meat is well cooked
  • Serve after cooled

5) Flakey Cod and Rice

Ingredients

  • 50g rice
  • 40g cod fillet

Procedure

  • Place rice in a saucepan with 100ml water
  • Stir once, and let simmer for 15 minutes with closed top
  • Do not remove lid, even after turning stove off (let rice fully soften)
  • Preheat oven
  • Place cod on baking pan and leave in oven until golden and fully cooked
  • Remove skin and bones from cod
  • Separate cod meat into small pieces
  • Serve with rice after both have cooled

6) Red Lentil Soup

Ingredients

  • 125g red lentil
  • 25g carrot

Procedure

  • Wash lentils and let them soak in water if required according to package
  • Boil 500ml water in a pot
  • Place red lentil in water
  • Meanwhile, finely chop carrots
  • Place together with lentils in pot
  • Bring to a boil
  • Lower heat and let simmer for 45 minutes or until fully soft
  • Blend in pot with stick blender until puree in form

7) Mashed Eggs

Ingredients

  • 1 egg

Procedure

  • Place egg in saucepan with water
  • Boil
  • Reduce heat and simmer for 10-15 minutes, or until well cooked
  • Remove shell and mash egg with a fork or spoon, adding a little bit of water for smoothness, if needed
